*sighs* I know what you’re thinking… another green smoothie girl. Hear me out. Before my actual journey into [balanced] health and wellness, I used to just throw a bunch of shit into the blender, throw it down the hatch and felt healthy for like 30 minutes before I was starving again. Turns out, I was doing it all wrong.
In 2022 my naturopath blew my mind. We went through my diet, trying to pin point what was going on (turns out theres been a parasite living rent free in my gut for the last 6 years).
Anywho, it turns out, if you're not chewing your smoothie, you’re not actually getting the most out of it. Making it (almost) entirely a waste. Why? When you chew, you send signals to your brain to then send signals to your digestion, saying “turn on the engine!”. You also produce this enzyme in your saliva that carries your food down when you swallow, aiding digestion further. So, when we slurp down a smoothie and drink it, not only will your body not fully register that it has to digest it (meaning you wont feel full, and thus you’ll want to eat again sooner) you also waste alllll of that money you spent on supplements, collagen powders mushroom tinctures etc by not actually absorbing it into your body. RIP $$$.
Hence why I opt for a morning smoothie bowl with toppings so as to ensure I am chewing my food and getting the absolute most out of the meal and all the supplements I put inside it.
